TRADE&PROFESSION

Forster Dzofete is a young man with a very moving fate. He lost his parents within a short period of time when he was eight years old. Incapable of taking care of himself, his grandmother who lives in Tegbi-Kpota took him under her care. A year later, Foster was hit by a car. His right leg was amputated. After he was discharged from the hospital and back home, he withdrew himself from the outside world. According to his grandmother, Foster could neither speak nor hear. He lived nine years in a room in the house, completely isolated from the world. Four years ago, a woman from the village decided to take care of him.

Once a week she took Foster along to church. He gradually begun to open up, Foster is now 22 years old and he just wants to learn, learn and learn. He has different professions in mind and wants to start with a TV and radio electronic technician.

Since then I (Andrea) have been paying Foster short visits at his new working place daily. It is clearly noticeable that he has not gotten used to the new world at the main street yet. All the new impressions seem to overwhelm him but he is visibly fine. It is wonderful to experience how Foster is opening up more and more from day to day. A lot of people interact and laugh with him. His foreman is a great teacher because he gives Foster time to settle in before really teaching him. At the moment, the teacher is explaining the single tools to him, one tool a day to avoid overstraining him.

By the way, it is Aunty Alnice who has been taking care of Foster for years and also took him along to church. She makes sure that he gets lunch at her house on every working day because Foster can not overcome the way to his home to have lunch. On the 23rd of December 2019,we have officially signed a 3 year contract for Foster to begin his apprentiship.

The picture below shows the contract signing ceremony between Forster and his master supported by FAF.
